I'm Gideon, over 21, I'm in the GMT timezone. This page will essentially be for stashing all my lotr meta from other places and potentially for holding any fanfic I eventually manage to finish. I enjoy digging into the books and using those details to build up the human cultures of middle earth, though this mainly pertains to Gondor and sometimes to Rohan, Harad and the East. I am fully divorced from the films with extreme prejudice, it is reasonable to assume that if something looks or happens a certain way in the films, I dislike it and do not consider it in my writing. That being said, there will be film critical posts on here along the lines of 'this element in the films is not in the books but is perceived as universally canon by the fandom and this is frustrating for me'.
A few disclaimers to begin with; This page is Denethor and Boromir positive, Faramir critical, Aragorn critical, Gandalf critical (along with the Valinor in general) and will be clumsily discussing Tolkien's racism within the books with as much nuance and thought as I can bring. I will also be attempting to separate Tolkien's much debated 'intent' from the actual content of the books and some of the wider writing. In general, I am not considering Tolkien's intent when discussing the books. I will also be discussing queer themes in the books and interpreting Boromir as gay.
That all sounded very official but for all that, this won't be very serious, I'm having a very fun time I promise and this is all very funny to me in the majority.
